It has been sealed with a few coats of satin varnish.

I have hand-painted these timber candle holders using a Terrye French pattern. I have grubbied up some pillar candles and added a light hint of buttery vanilla scent and then decorated them with some cheese-cloth, Sweet Annie and a grubby tag.
